Wheels are an integral part of the road bike. Their material and construction, as well as the choice of your tires, largely determine the performance of your machine on the asphalt. The design of the road bike hub also determines the stiffness of your wheel, and therefore the overall handling of your road bike.

The hub of a bicycle is an important part of the bicycle. It facilitates the transfer of power from the pedals to the rear wheel (rear road hub), and allows you to ride in the best conditions. In addition, hubs determine which wheels will fit your bike. Indeed, not all bikes have exactly the same dimensions. At AIVEE you will find hubs designed for traditional wheel clamps (rear axle: 10/140 mm), and for quick release (QR) wheel clamps, which have smaller dimensions (front axle 5/100 mm and rear axle 5/130 mm).

How to choose the right road bike hub

The first criterion to take into account is the braking system of your bike: pad or disc. In the latter case, in addition to the mounting of the disc (Center Lock or 6 holes), it is essential to check the length of the axis of your fork for the front hub and your frame for the rear because there are a multitude of standards (including 9/100 mm, 12/100 mm, 15/100 mm in the front and 9/135 mm, 12/135 mm and 12/142 mm in the rear. You have to choose a hub compatible with your drivetrain where two standards of freewheel body coexist: SHIMANO / SRAM and CAMPAGNOLO. Finally, for the number of spokes, the more you have, the stronger the wheel will be, the less you have, the lighter it will be.
